World History-A Tale of Feudalism

After reading about the lives and roles of people in the Middle Ages, you have a much better understanding of feudalism. For this blog post, I want you to select TWO of the following groups of people in this time period: Noble (Lord), Knights, Vassal, Serf or Monk.

After selecting those two, assume the character of that person and write 3-4 sentences (for EACH one) about their life during the feudalism age. The tales should be written in the 1st person.

You can write about any aspect of life, and students will be rewarded for being creative. However, you will need to display some knowledge of the material in your writing.

The posts are due at the beginning of your history period.

Life as a Knight in The Middle Ages

I woke up at the crack of dawn, I had to go to Mass. I then have my first meal of the day, breakfast. I then have a bit of practice, in duels and jousting. I am always the victor. Then my King would teach us some new battle tactics. I am usually placed in the middle line, I ride a horse and carry a sword. We then have a hearty meal, filled with meats and vegetables to get us strong. Not too long after our stomachs have settled, we go out and hunt. Finally, we finish up the night with a dinner and a prayer.

Life as a Monk in The Middle Ages

Monk's have a very vigorous and active lifestyle. We do many chores for those that are above us. We wash dishes, clean rooms, make wine and ale, we even work as hospitality for pilgrims. We are your everyday workers that come in and work non stop to suit everyone else everyday needs. At night we finally get a good rest, but it is back to work at the crack of dawn.

Lord-
I woke up with a massive headache. Lords, such as I, tend to drink too much and have diets of only meat. I have a wife, as well as four mistresses. My serfs bring me tribute from their harvests in the morning. After that, I ride my horse in search of these rascals in the forest that keep stealing money from rich people that live on my lands. I have an enormous castle. My castle was recently attacked by crazy Scottish rebels, and my soldiers got owned. My hero is Sir Ulrich von Leichtenstein.

Serf-
I am in service to the Lord. My life is horrible. Day after day, I tend to my barley crop. It is all taken by the lord. I recieve almost no payment. I have to serve in the Lord's army. My daughter is one of the Lord's eight mistresses. Nostradamus told me that I am very similar to a character called "Ted" in a TV Show called "Scrubs" that occurs 500 years from now.

Knights
Everyday I wake up when the rooster crows at the crack of dawn to protect my lord. My trusted steed is Golden Touch and we defend our lord day in and day out. I work for a man named Charles, who I must say is afraid of everything from crickets to the dark. i am still waiting for my fief, which is my granted land. hopefully soon I will recive it.

Serfs
Morning, the worst time of the day. I was poor into a poor family and I wish to see the world, but that is yet a dream that i think of when i work. I live on a manor with twenty other families in small cramped cottages. My work is grinding grain with a girl that i used to work with, but she tried to bake bread outside of the manor and she was convicted of a crime. I am also hoping to get married soon at the local church, but I have to pay a heavy tax. The life that our lord gets is something that I dream of everyday.

Serf

In the wee hours of the morning I wake only to begin work before a meal. The meal is not one you would expect of a working man but a rather a pitiful slave, which I am sad to say I am both. All day I work barely to make a living, while my master sits back and watches the wealth roll in. He requires of us a percent of our grain and makings and he taxes almost everything we do inside his manor. We have to pay taxes to make our grain and to get married among other things. while he sits inside his homely house we live in huts with the biggest with only two rooms. After our hard day of labor we rutrn to the grind in the mornings.

Noble

In the morning I awaken to a hearty breafast wiht my family. Afterwards we head to the Church for mass. When we get home my wife takes a nap while the children get schooled. At that time I oversee my manor and take care of the dealings with the serfs, vassals, and what not. After a day of work my family and I regather for supper and then we rest and start over again.

My life as a knight has been very satisfying. I have only been traded twice and because of my performances in battle I am one of the most powerful knights in the village. I fight for my Lord, heavenly lord, my heavenly lord, and my chosen lady whose name is Josefine.

My life as a serf is very unsatisfying. I live in a two room cottage with one bedroom and one kitchen. My family and I sleep on hay and to warm the house we bring in pigs. I have never left my village and I wish to travel the world someday. My whol life revolves around work. My work is to farm and take care of animals.

Serf:
Though it is so hard to wake up every morning I have to. If I do not i won't receive the lord's protection. However, in return day after day is full of hard-work, honesty, and little reward. I live on the manor but do not have much freedom and I live in an extremely crowded cottage wich is occupied with at least twenty other families. It is a tough life to relive every day but I must go on.

Knight:
I wake up each morning ready to serve and fight for the King and my lord. First, I sit down at mass and pray before I start to eat my first meal of the day, breakfast. Second, I practice with weapons, talk strategy, and becom more knowlegeable of my work. Then I must hunt and use my skills to please my lord until I eat supper and be entertained. Finally, I say my prayers, go to sleep, and do it all again the next day.

Serf

I wake up to the sun gleeming in my eyes through the slits in the wooden walls of our small two room cottage. My soon to be wife is up in the eating room where she has made us some bread and water. I say soon to be wife because we plan on getting married, but we do not have the tax money required, so we continue to work until we do. After I am done with my breakfast, I head out to the fields on the manor property to tend my wheat fields. I do this until it is lunch. I take a thirty minute break to eat and get back to work. With the sun beating on my back, i finish harvesting my crops when it is time to eat dinner and go to sleep. I finish my dinner and go in to the bedroom where some people are already sleeping on the pile of straw. I get in and drift off to sleep, thinking of a better life.

Knight

I wake up at the crack of dawn and quickly get out of bead and get dresses, so that I will not be late for the troop breakfast. Other than having delicious potatoes and fruit, breakfast was uneventful, just like the rest of my day. After eating I patroled the town, collected the taxes, fed my horse Snugglebutton, ate lunch, had sword fighting practice with my friend, talked to some lovely maidens outside of the tavern, ate dinner, and finally went to bed waiting for the next day.

Knight

Being a knight is not very easy. I have to follow the code of chivalry, which demands that I fight even in very horrifying circumstances. This is very hard at times because sometimes war is very brutal. I often compete in tournaments. They are a lot of fun, but they also have a purpose. They are supposed to help improve my combat abilities. I have never been on the loosing side of one of these tournaments. However, last week, a sword gashed my calf. It kind of hurt, but it was worth it because we won and got a huge ransom from the loosing team.

Serf

I am a surf. I live on a manor. The landowner is very nice, but he still taxes me heavily. There are about twenty five other families on the manor. Life is pretty miserable. Just last week, my best friend died from cholera. We have to grow everything we need to live. Last summer we had a drought, and the river running through the manor dried up. About four of our elderly (about 35-36 years) died. I almost died myself.

Knight: Today we had two attacks one bright and early, and one late at I'd ay around 8. I hope noone notices I was asleep through the first raid, Lord Dees was so unpleased with Sir Knight Quadir after he missed a raid because he was drunk he hung him from the highest tower.Scary what that man will do... Those muslims are always trying to keep us down, we've been raid ten times within the month. They havent had a succesful raid since our Lord Dees had a new outpost built on the east edge. Gotta be the busiest serf the one chosen to be lookout. He must be so happy thinking hes actully doing something important for once. Poor sucker's never been outside the 3rd feild.
Serf:I got this really usefull job manning the outpost on the east edge! My lord is so generous he said I was the only one IDIOTIC enough to take the job. I wonder what that means anyway, he said it with such enthusiasm! I wonder if, maybe on my birthday he would let me leave the manor for once or atleast give me a raise or something.

Knight

Today I woke up to the screeching sound of the trumpet to get all of us up for the day at the crack of dawn. We started the day off with lukewarm porridge and a warm glass of water, training is no picnic. My friend Ned called me out in my first challenge of my career, my first joust. The king was watching with the look of entertainment on his face as I knocked Ned off the horse. After this event the King made us condition and put ourselves in grueling real life situations and would teach us how to get out of them, he used me for every example. Although it was only the first day I think it's safe to say that the king likes me.

Serf

The walls are shakin from my muther yelling towards my bruther, Jerry, who has barely tuched his food. I am just trying to zoan them out and think my own thawts... Anyway, today wasn't no different than any others. Same old routine everyday, wake up beefore the sun comes out and get ready to labor from sun up till sun down. We work hard and have all natural foods that dont taste so good for supper. Honestly, I don't know how my folks have kept normal for so long being kept in these here parts like this for so long. It has been two weeks since my bruther Jerry tried to run away frum this town. Ever since then my family has been punished on account of his actions and Ive been band from the local school for rite now, my educashun aint to great. If I am cawt readin or writin I can get intruble for longer so im gunna go to bed and get reddy for tomarrow

Life as a Lord

Waking up after many drinks and much food is a real pain. Headaches and stomachaches mostly every morning. Since I am the lord, I can afford to eat and drink as much as I want which is great but also had its downsides. Today is the day i collect tax from every family in the village. So I will need protection from my knights. I could not own or sell of the serfs but I do own the land and they work for me. After many hours of collecting taxes, I had to return to my manor because there was a vassal waiting for me. I had agreed to sell a couple of acres of my land to the vassal. IN return, I receive assistance in military protection and wars. Being a lord is great but it is also a very hard and exhausting.

Life as a Serf

Being a serf is the most humiliating and worst part of my life and I never get respect anywhere because I am at the bottom of the pyramid of social classes. Every day I work hard feeding and taking care of my family. It is especially hard because we live in a one room cottage with barely enough space for my wife, my children, and me. Also, we never had enough to eat because we only receive a small ration. Sometimes my wife and I have to starve because we have to feed our children. The lord came to our home today asking for tax and that left me no money to purchase food and other necessities for my family's needs. I have to work for the lord every day and sometimes even night time. When my children grow up they may need to start working for me too. But if the children could not handle it then they might die of illness and starvation. If there was anything in the world that I could have been I would rather be that than being a serf.

Knight-

I woke early, the sun was not yet up and I went to the village church for mass. Following that, I ate my usual breakfast of bread while the king reminded us to follow the chivalry. I ate more than I usually do to prepare for the tournament. I placed second in the jousting tournament and my shoulder took a hard hit. I then went home, ate, and prepared for the next day of training.

Serf-

When I woke my lord instructed me to milk the cows and begin working in the field. At about mid- day I took a break for lunch. After that, I was back to work. When the sun began to go down, I was examining the sun burn I got from that day when realized I owed the priest my tithe for that month. I rushed to the church before going home to bed.

This morning I woke up at 10 o'clock, it's been a while since that.I used to wake up in the middle of the night screaming because I was so afraid of who was going to attack us next.Ever since the feudalism order I have felt much safer, the fact that I can get a fief just for my services is so exciting!

Vassal

This new order feudalism really has got me thinking.I mean, it gives me some land but at what cost?If someone were to attack the lord's land what would I do?I just got some land and in exchange i have to lend my services to the lord. What if I go fight and die what happens to my land, will my lord just take it back the second I die.I don't know about this,I don't have a good feeling about it.

Living the Lord life

I woke up from a long night of drinking and toasting to my manor. I search for my bell so i can call my Serfs to come and feed me. My name is Edward Nighting. I have 6 mistresses and 7 sons. As i plan my day out i plan to practice some archery, Paint, and watch the knights joust. They really do put on a good show. Later on tonight i will visit with the other lords. We will have a grand feast consisting of Beef, Beef stew and Beefsteak, we really do love our meet. We will toast to everything from our land to our fellow lords, for when your a lord the fights over land never stop, but we'll survive.

Living the Serf life

I run through the corridors of my Lord's castle. I'm nervous because he asked for his breakfast over an hour ago i have never been late in giving him anything ever. God, do i hate my new job. I used to work in the fields as a farmer and no one ever complained or harassed you there it was just you and the good 'ol cows. Now i've been placed to work at a station in the castle. I must tend to the lord's every wishes. I work for Edward Nighting, a big partying man with an even bigger ego. He rarely ever looses a fight and is always right. He is usually out with the other lords but when he is here he is usually tire and cranky. I live in a small room with two other families we are malnourished and sick. Most of us don't live through the winter. We can't take days off either. Now i must go before he gets mad. This is just a day in the life of a Serf.

When i wake up i begin to wash myself in the tub of water. Then i dress in my under-armour because today is battle-day. I go down to eat whan my squire has prepared for me, porride and some beer. Then prepare myself for battle while my squire saddles up my horse. My lord places me in the mddle of the line. After that, we go home victors and celebrate with tons on alcohol and party all night.

Serf

I wake up to the sound of my wife waking me up, which i had to pay alot on money to get so she better be good for something. I wash down my face in the basin sitting in one of are two rooms. All day i tend the baley crops i am growing for my lord. I go to the bakery in the manor to bake bread because my lord would flip out if he found out that I went somewhere else to bake the breaD. Then i go home to my wife, eat and then return to bed.

Everyday I have to serve my lord in return for his protection. I am not allowed to leave the manner so I have never seen other parts of the world. I am forced to pay high taxes and work very hard. I get a basic meal and live in a small house with only one room.

Life as a Lord
I wake up everyday after a night of partying to my 5 sons and 3 mistresses. I am the protector of the serfs and I collect taxes from them. I trade land to vassals for their military services. I am the leader on the manner and if i die I expect the serf to die in my honor. I live a very lavish lifestyle.

Serf

I woke up at the very beginnig of the day, I skipped breakfest so that I could save food for the rest of my family. I then worked in the field with booth crops and animals. I was joined by my friends from the village and my two sons. We all together slaved away in the blazing sun. When we finally finished the burdends, every one went home to there families, except me, I went to the top of the hill near our village. I gazed across the horizon and wondered what was the world like beyong our village, and why was I traped here all of my life. I then walked home to my house, ate dinner with my family, and then went to bed on my insect infested stack of hay.

knight

I woke up before dawn today, and ate breakfest with the other knights. We then all went to Church were we had mass. I prayed deeply that I could survive today, for today was the day we went to war with our hated enemy, a fiefdom 20 miles to the east. We then put our armor on and began to march. When the battle began my perrished to my sword right and left. In the end, our army triumphed and I was one of the few survivors of our army. I saw the faces of my friends, slaign on the ground, and I woundered, how mmuch longer must we keep fighting.

I awoke with a severe headache. I knew that i drank too much last night, but i couldn't help it. If I have the money to drink as much as i want, then why not indulge in it? I looked outside my window and saw my serfs already attending to there work. I currently have fifteen serf families living in my manor. Tonight is the night where the vassals, other lords and I talk about land and granting fiefs. I am almost positive there will be a lot of argueing, but nothing a lot of food and drinks can't fix.

Serf-

It is morning, which means work time. Working all day in the field, farming, is no way to live, but i must. I must work to pay my marriage tax. I know it'll be worth it. I already have the Lord's consent, so all I have to do is earn the tax money. I finished my work for today and I am exhausted. I went to my cottage for supper and rest for tomorrow. Fortunately, I am one of the lucky serfs, who own a cottage with two rooms. I finished my supper rather quickly and fell into a deep slumber on a pile of straw, thinking about tomorrow.

Life as a Lord.

I wake up and go to take a bath. After the bath my servants prepare me my breakfast. As I am eating my breakfast a page tells me that I have a visitor. I say, "Enter!" As the doors open one of my serfs appear. I say, " What is it that thouist wantist serf?" the serf says "O my great king I wish to have a fief so that my wife and I may have our own land." I say, "No! Goodbye." As the day passes I go to the throne room to talk to a knight of his last successful battle against the Lombards. Then I go to bed after I have my dinner

When I was younger, I would train very hard every day to become a knight. I was put in many real life situations and I had to fight my way out of them. All of that has preprared me for my first battle today. I finally feel ready to face our enemy and defend our land.

Serf

My life as a serf is nothing but work. I tend to my ruler's every command and must be at his beck and call constantly. In turn I am given a tiny plot of land and very small living quarters. These meager offerings have to be enough to feed and house my entire family. If only I had been born into royalty...

I do not enjoy my life as a serf. I live in a very crammed cottage with dirt floors and the cottage is usually very cold so we have to burn pigs inside. My whole life is to work and to take care of my family. Most of my work involves tending to the animals and farming. I have never left the manor and I wish to see the whole world one day, but everyone says it will never happen.

I very much enjoy my life of a knight. Because I am such a great fighter, my Lord rewards me in many ways, one including not trading me. I owe my life to my Lord and desire to serve because he’s given me so much.

I try to do things like them so I can help the Church and be just like them.

Life as a knight

As asked by my Lord I prepare for battle. I tell my squires to prepare my warhorse, my sword, and to put my armor on. After they finish I go and pick a lady to defend during the battle, many want me to pick them but I pick just one. I then walk to my warhorse and ride to the battle formation outside the manor, I am the leader of the army so I ride in the front. As I am in the front I wait untill all eyes are upon me, then I try to give energy and hope to the men by saying a speech. As we see the approaching army I yell "Charge!" so to attack the unorganized army in surprise. After the battle I am called by my Lord. He says, " You were brave and courages in your successful battle, for that I award you a fife." I take his gift with much gratitude and amexcused as to be removed of my armour by my squires and to take a bath and go to bed. That is the life of a knight.

My life as a serf was awful. I work up every morning to find myself tending to the lords animals and out in the fields. The taxes in the manor are very high and I just have enough money for food. Serf
Even though people like kings, nobles, knights, lords, and vassals think they are better than me, I don’t think I truly deserve to be at the very bottom of the feudal pyramid, because I have immeasurable prestige and power. All day I tend to the lord’s land and care for his animals, but all I get in return is the most basic living supplies and I still must pay outrageously high taxes on all grain ground in the lord’s mill, marriage, and a tithe, or church tax. My dream as a child was to grow up and travel the world, but little did I know that this was my future, living in a crowded old cottage with nothing but pigs to keep me warm.

Knight
Because my family has no land to live on, I have offered my services up one of the local lords in exchange for a fief. I am now living up fully to the code of chivalry and displaying great loyalty to my lord. I am twenty years of age and have just been promoted from squire to full-fledged knight. I am off to travel for a few years, but when I return I will be fully prepared for the many tournaments to come which I will take part in.

Serf~

Life over here is harsh. I wake up to sound of babies crying, mothers yelling, and men groaning in the 2-room cottages on the small, crowded manor. There is nothing much to eat, so I quickly eat my vegetable soup and slice of bread. I then make my way to the Lord’s Demesne where I raise and produce everything my lord needs such as crops, lumber, fuel, etc. After all, I have the privilege of living on his land, so I must work for him and pay tax on all of the grain on his property. I return home after a long day of work only to lie down again on the rough pile of straw filled with bugs.

Knight~

I just turned twenty-one which means I am officially a full-fledged knight. Ever since I was seven, I was training and learning the code of chivalry. By the age of fourteen, I became a squire and servant to a knight. Tonight I am packing to travel to take part in a tournament. The main reason for my participation is for the combat training. I am ready to show my courage and loyalty to my lord in battle.

Knight..

My life as a knight is alright. After the years of training, i am happy i am here. I wake up in the morning knowing that i have to protect my lord. I also know that i have to not only protect him, but my heavenly lord. I have only fought in one battle, but my lord was pleased with the work that i did. So, i guess being a Knight is good and bad, the training isn't easy, but when your lord says he is proud of the work that you did, you know it was worth it!

Serf..
Life as a serf is horrible. Well its not that bad, but it isn't that good. You have to wake up early in the morning to get ready for work. I have to work in the fields all day. It is so frustrating to look at those same crops everyday, to do the same thing everyday, and to be outside in the blazing hot sun. Sometimes i wish i could quit, especially with having to pay taxes on everything, but i know that i have to take care of my family.

Life as a Night

When the sun rises, I rise to protect the Lord. If I serve him well, my life will be better. After morning prayers and mass, I go out to practice with my wepons. I would then learn about war strageys and other skills. Then there are more prayers and we eat the second meal. After the meal I normally go hunting with my lord. After that we have evening prayers and our third meal. Then there is the fun part: entertainment. We sing, dance or view jugglers. Then the day is over and we thank God once again and rest for another day.

Life as Monk

As a Monk, my main tasks are to worship, read and work. Some of my chores are washing and cooking for the monastery, providing medical care for the community. I also enjoy copying manuscripts of classical authors and educating young boys. We pray eight times a day in order to secure salvation for ourselves. Then when the day is done we know that we have served God well.

As the day went by slowly and i worked and worked, when i was finnally allowed to sleep i prayed to God that this night might last a little longer.

Monk

I awoke to the sounds of birds chirping in the monastary. i was glad to lead my day by teaching young men about the love of God. i went to mass before breakfest, and i ate little to fast and feel the pain of Jesus Christ. I then went to the school to teach all the young men about Jesus. When i went to sleep that night i thanked God that i may have a life that many other would die for.

Noble (Lord):

The first thing I had to do: go to the bucket, my own little vomitorium. Ugh, I think I had a little too much to drink last night. My wife napping and my children schooling, I head outside, having a proud view of my knights training for the upcoming battle. I am as confident as can be that I'll win. If not, I know one particular Vassal that will not be able to tell daylight from night when I'm done with him.

Serf:

All I can think about is food. I'm so hungry! I hate my lord. I swear one day I'm going to receive all his land. He will pay for making my son go through all that pain. However, I am sadly stuck tending everything he wills for, but one day...one day.

Knight

My days begin early. I am served a feast-like breakfast. Shortly after that I do my duty. My job requires me to serve my king, and protect his land. Being a knight in midevil times, puts me in danger, but I know it is what I have to do to obtain land and power.

Serf

I lead a non-leisurly life style. I do tedious jobs, that no one wants to do. I get little to no meals, and I am on the bottom of the social triangle. I do not own land, and I am thought little of.

Knight- When i woke up in the morning I was feeling a bit sore from all of the training we had done yesterday. After breakfast I went to train with the other knights but I didn't know any of them except for the four other knights that were sent to the new lord with me. Then I was speaking to the lord and I was asking him about the tasks I will need to preform for him as a serf came charging in to the room I had to protect my new lord and gain respect when he swong at him I dove at him and tackled him to the ground. Then I sent him away with two other knight to be watched.

Serf- As I woke early in the morning I woke my wife and had to go meet with the lord. When I got to his house I discussed with him if I could possibly acquire a third of an acre and he refused under no circumstances. I got back and was terribly frustrated but I had to work so I went to the fields and gathered the crops and planted more seeds. When I got home the church leader came by and told me that I was late on my taxes and I had to pay more so I was under alot of stress and tried to relieve it with alcohol and I got very drunk and all I remember was the next morning i was under watch for fighting the lord.

Life as a Knight in the Middle Ages

I wake up before the sun rises and get dressed in my armor ready for the day ahead of me. I eat my morning breakfast before I leave to go serve my lords. I'm always ready to serve, whether I live or die. I live to fight and defend my lord and I die in honor and know I did the right justice. I always have weapons on me so I stay on guard and once the days ends from the training it's time to go and eat dinner. After dinner is finished we pray and I go to sleep just to awake to the same routine.

My life as a Serf in the Middle Ages

I arise to find that my life hasn't gotten any better like the dreams and peace I find at night. Its another horrible morning to wake up to, I find myself working all day and the late morning just for bad living conditions and no pay. I was cold last night and awoken to a pig squeal and a bug crawling on my shoulder, this meant that instead of my usual 4 hours of sleep, I had 2 hours. I hope one day the lord recognizes my constant dedication and gives me a job as a knight. But then again, It's just another dream and right now I'm in reality and I have farming to do.

Serf-
I have just returned to my small two room cottage from a hard day of work. I awoke very early to tend to the crops and animals. I work for the Lord and in return he allows me to live in the manor. My home is quite cluttered. I have one room for my family and I to cook and eat. The second room is the family bedroom, where we sleep in a pile of straw crawling with insects. It seems as if my life will be like this forever.

Knight-
I am twenty one years old and I am a knight for my Lord. I have been training to become a knight since I was seven years old. It was a long and difficult process but it payed off and I have pledged to protect my Lord's land. I have taken part and won many tournaments to gain my fighting experience. I am the most skilled warrior and therefore I have an abundance of fiefs. I am very pleased with the life I devote to the earthly feudal lord, my heavenly Lord, and my chosen lady.

When my family and I woke up in our tightly packed cottage, we quickly brought a pig inside to keep us warm. For breakfast, we ate a small portion of some bread and cheese. Directly after that we started working in the fields, along with my children. It is sad that we aren't as rich as the rest but we accept it because we know God determinded our place in society.

Lord-
Today I gave another serf housing, protection from those bandits, and a piece of land where they can farm. But I guess it's alright because they take care of many task I would never do. Like with the estate and even take care of my farm animals. They also feed me all the meat I want and give me all the drinks I need also the next morning they aid all of my aches from the night before.

Lord-

Hello, I am thy lord Peter the 1st. Today was a difficult day for me. I woke up at the crack of 9 A.M. I ate a breakfast of many rich fruits, the cleanest water, and great meats. After that I sat around the manor asking servants for things. It was quite a dificult day.

Knight-

Hello, I am Sir Peter the Defender. I woke up early today. I ate well for guarding. After breakfast i went to get my horse Buttercup the third. As I rode her around I defended many parts of the village, staying close by the manor. The serfs were working as I rode by. I was thinking to myself of my life of training for this job as a defender, and I can't be happier.

I wake up to wish I was asleep. My job is horrible, and the payment is terrible. I barely get enough food and I have to pay tax. Lord is fair though to give me a place to sleep and a fief, but I am basically in a box that I can't get out of. Whatever my lord says, I have to do. Today was a brutal day, we are being attacked by french rebbels and i have to fight, and I am terrible at fighting. Unfortunantly today I am unlucky, my lord died.

I get up to do my practice and am surprised with news that I will be moved to another lord. News has it that he hung somebody from the highest tower. I am fearfull because I am a part of the battery ramming group and I can't screw up. I live a good life though, the food is fare and my lord is fair to me. I owe everything to him. Today we were on attack from the muslims. I got to use a horse today. It's good I got my jousting practice. I noticed somebody was missing. I wonder what the lord will do to him.

I just awoke in my small cottage at the smell of breakfast. After I ate I had to work on the fields, I wish my life could be more like the dreams I have. The dreams I have are paying fewer taxes and working a lot less. I can’t even get married because I don’t have the money for taxes. Finally after a long day of work I get home to my terrible tasting food. I hope the lord will understand the difficulties we have to struggle with each day and change the way we live.

Knight
I woke up to my squire handing me my breakfast and getting my armor ready. He tells me I’m going to war today with my enemies. I'm a bit nervous but I know I have to be strong because I'm leading the war today. My soldiers and I get on our horses and charge the enemies. After a brutal day of fighting I come home a champion for I saved my Lord. But we did lose a few soldiers that day. I mourn their death at a church then go home to celebrate our victory.

Knight;;

I awoke and knew that I overslept; I could feel it. I rose quickly and raced off to the chamber to learn the code of chivalry. Soon I will be sent off to another lord and learn fighting skills. I am so excited. But being a knight is not as easy as it looks. You have to eat well, catch a good night's sleep, and practice daily. After my day of learning I followed everyone for a night's dinner and prayer. Then I returned to my housing. I relaxed and soon fell asleep to dreams of fighting cloaked in heavy armour and my sword at my side. With my beautiful horse with its stirrup and saddle,I will be a victorious competitor, I can feel it.

Serf;;

I awake to the screaming of voices. I am ready to start a new day. I shall go to the field to finish my task for the landowner, then I shall start on a new task. Most likely it will be harvesting vegetables, wheat, and other goods for meals. It is a hard task, but I have to return the favor of my landlord for housing and proctection that he has granted me. Soon, some friends of mine will have to pay their taxes again. Such high prices he asks for, it is outrageous. Well, I should be off finishing my task of taking care of the animals. It will hopefully be an easier day not like every other day that has come and gone so far.

everyday is pretty much the same. I wake up, look out at my feilds to see if my serfs are doing what they are being given land for, and then making sure they aren't trying to get around the mill taxes. Every now and again I will be asked if I would give my permission to two young, lovers to get married, and depending on if their family has been loyal to me, will I give them my consent. I also am well suplied with crops from feilds I don't need to work, and streams I don't need to fish, because that is what my serfs do and how they pay me.

Serf-
I absolutly hate this job! I never thought that everyday I would wakeup before dawn so I could hit the feilds early, have to pay a tax on EVERYTHING even church! as well as only being alowed a small bit of land and a house only big enough for my spouse and I let alone a family of 6. I only do this so my family would be better off...or so I thought. I have already 2 sons due to disease.

Life as knight had been good to me my whole life. From a young age i have learned to fight and defend myself so becoming a night was the most logical thing for me to do. I protect my lord with my life and in return he provides me with my needs and my wantings in life. The serfs around me provide me with my food and any other littile task that needs to be dealt with so in return i protect thier land and their families.

Serf:
Life as a serf is awful i wake up to the voice of knights or nobles yelling at us to get out on the feilds. The food i am provided with is very scarce i am very weak in result of this. I wish i did not have to be a serf and that my family in the future can do something important to get out of this awful life.

Knight: I wake up and start walking toward the window. When i look outside just below me awaits the land on which i will kick some serious butt. I start getting ready for this important battle against the Lombards and "get into the zone." I get dressed wash up and walk outside where i mount my horse ready for the ownage im about to serve up. Of course chivalry is part of my important duty and will be defending the lord today. If a victory is to occur i will celebrate with a most joyous attitude living life to the fullest.
Serf: I wake up to the annoying yell of frantic serfs. The crammed confining room only makes it a hundred times better. I look around and ask whats going on. I am told that we are to clean the lords manor spotless for he is throwing a party. I put on the worn clothes i have wishing for some possesions half as amazing as the the lords wife. We arrive at the manor and i get sent to scrub the tile floors. This is definately going to be fun stuff. The best part of my day is scrubing the floors so much that i could see my reflection. Yay!!!

Today, I made another agreement this time with a Viking leader. With Magyar forces nearing my manor I had no choice but to act with haste. Despite my need for troops I was still able to make a good bargain for my fief. I believe I deserve a feast for my hard days work. The serfs harvested there crops recently. I will thoroughly enjoy what they have to offer me.

Knight
Finally my 40 days of service for the year are over. I could remember all the time I spent serving my Lord. From when I began as a page, to a full fldged knight. I attended tournaments to prepare for combat. I also abided to the code of chivalry and I believe that it brought victory in battle. At last I can go to the fief my Lord gave me. I will look forward to hunting and practicing my skills on my new land.

I woke up today tired from all the stupid chores my Lord had us do yesterday. I am one of his personal servants. His wish is my command and unlike the feild workers I must be polite and put on a fake smile in front of him. Although I am thankful to my lord for providing housing he is the laziest man I have ever seen. After a days work I get to go home to a crowded cottage and do the same thing the next day.

Lord
I am the Lord of a large estate with many serfs. My house is kept clean and all my meals are cooked by my the serfs. I must say I have a pretty easy life just seeing over all the work that is beeing done. All my land is protected by the knights who are in return given pieces of land. Life as a Serf-
This morning, I awoke to the sad news my baby boy had died of disease, but it was not an uncommon event. After praying to God for my son, I ate some vegetables and bread for breakfast. Work in the fields started shortly after, and did not end until about sundown. I understand that God chose for me to be a Serf, but I wish I did not have to pay so many taxes, I barely make money as it is.

Lord-
I woke up this morning without a headache, unlike many other lords do. I make sure to stay on top of my manor, and receive protection for my people with knights. I have a fairly large land, but even more knights to defend it. My children receive excellent schooling, and I try to provide schooling for my manor as well. I understand the Serfs have a rough life, but I appreciate their work and loyalty. Disobeying me is disobeying God, so they rarely try to skip taxes. I must leave and go celebrate the fending off of the rebels.

My lord is a fair man but also very cruel he makes me work for a long time and does not pay me with a fair price. He raises taxes about every 2 weeks. Its unbelievable! I wish I lived a life of a Knight.

Life as a Lord in the Middle Ages

Today I woke up next to an ungrateful hag, wondering why I had chosen to betroth the plain-looking woman. She promised me no children, and I believed her. For that reason I have been sneaking off with the undoubtedly, beautiful, Sophia. The affair would be a disgrace to many, for she works in the field as my peasant. I have given her housing, but don't allow her to go past the church on the hill. She is smart for a peasant, and together we have come up with a devious plan to kill my wife. I have hired one of my most loyal, and efficient knights to do away with her tonight. Tonight we are feasting on bread, meat, fish, vegetables, wine, and more wine. By the time she is done drinking, the hag will not be able to see straight. My knight will finish her off then, and Sophia and I will be together.

Life as a Knight in the Middle Ages

Sir James of Richton is my lord, and i owe him my loyalty. He treats his wife horribly, and i have seen him with the beautiful maiden, Sophia. Many men have asked for he hand in marriage, but Sir James has declined them many times. I believe that my noble lord has not been honest, and is sleeping around with her, and is ignoring his wonderful, sweet wife. I am shameful to say that I have devoted myself to his wife, Elizabeth. Sir James makes me ill to see him treat her so poorly. Between Sir James and me, chivalry is dead. He trusted in me a malicious secret. Sir James wants my to kill his wife so he could be with Sophia. Elizabeth and I discussed a plan after Church one day. We would run away together. She has told me we are have a child, and that we must prepare. My skills of sword fighting, jousting, and horse-back riding will easily find me another lord to serve under. We may not have the large, luxurious foods of meat, fish, crops, and wine, but I believe we will survive.

When I was seven years old I was sent from my home to the Castle of Lord Charles. I worked there doing simple chores, and learning basic fighting skills. When I turned 14 i became a squire. I waited on a knight named Theo. From him, I learned all the details and duties of knighthood. When i turned 24 I was knighted.

Vassals
Today, I woke up and went to my window. It is a grand sight. 200 acres of land and 2,000 soldiers to protect it. This army was lead by three men, Lord Artomis, Lord Bernerd, and Lord Calvin. At about mid day a big powerful looking man camed up to me, he was tot carrying any weapons so he was not one of the soldiers. I soon found him to be Lord Devon, and he was willing to give me 50 acres to the west of my estate in exchange for military control of hisd men. This was a good deal, and I exepted it willingly.

Life as a Serf:

The sun has not risen, and it feels like I've only been asleep for an hour or two. i am pulled out of bed bu the vise- grip of my lord. i cannot run, i must only serve on his land for all of my life. he pays for my room and board, but i may never leave. After you learn how to be a good fighter you need to be ranked of a squire, next you become a true knight. I protect my lord and also the weak and poor. It is sometimes very hard to be loyal and brave, though I am very proud to serve my lord.

When Lord B and Lord S start their battle, who will Little J choose? She better make the right choice or her new power will be gone sooner than she can imagine.

In other news, a tough choice is also being made by N the Knight. We all know that knights have to obey 3 masters- their feudal lord, their heavenly lord, and their chosen lady. But which lady to pick? Lady V seems like the obvious choice. But you never know who else might steal her place...

Life as a knight

AS the sun crept into my room shining brightly upon my eyes,I got up put on my armor and went to work. The first thing I do is eat a hearty breakfast of dragon tale, eggs and goat milk. Next I set out to serve and protect the Lord and the landowner's land. I receive a fair amount of fief for my duties and therefore I am considered a vassal. At the end of the day protecting the people that are above me I ride home on horseback and get some sleep on my hay bed.Once in a while I take a bath before bed but that is only if I have killed 5 people for intruding on the private land.

Life as a serf

As I get up before the rooster sounds I start to clean the castle. A little sooner after I start to make breakfast for the Lord and everyone else I must serve.( Which is pretty much everyon). After I am done I must shine everyones shoes so they can be off on their day. I would run away but as a serf I can not leave the place I was born. I do not get paid well and I am sick of all the things I have to do. I have no say in anything and I will never have a happy life. I can not provide for my family so they left me. Now I am sad, lonely and might just take the chance of getting killed.
